CHRISTIAN DEBUTANTE MASTER COMMISSION (CDMC) HISTORY
AME CONNECTIONAL CHURCH

Dr. Julma Crawford, Founder
The CDMC, originated by Dr. Julma Crawford, is under the division of Christian Education. The first Debutante-Master Dedication was held at the seat of the 34th General Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, May 18, 1952, in Chicago’s Coliseum. By elected legislation enacted at the 39th Session of the A.M.E General Conference held in June 1972 in Dallas, TX., the CDMC became an official commission. On July 1, 1972, Dr. Crawford was elected Administrator of the commission with the rank of General Officer. In 1976, she became a connectional officer as the administrator of the newly legislated Debutante-Master Commission. The CDMC is a commission of adults comprising a new supportive and supplemental service to youth groups of the division of Christian Education at each level of the A.M.E Church.  Dr. Crawford retired in 1992.

Eleventh Episcopal District of AMEC
In 1972 under the Leadership of Bishop Robinson, Presiding Prelate of the Eleventh Episcopal District, Mrs. Marie B. Grimmage was appointed as the Eleventh Episcopal District Christian Debutante Master Commissioner CDMC. She served until 1982. In 1982, Bishop Samuel S. Morris appointed Mrs. Peggy R. Johnson, who served until 1983. In 1993, Bishop Frank Cummings appointed Mrs. Queen Bowers-Brown where she served until 2000. In 2000, our incoming Bishop John H. Adams became the Presiding Prelate of the Eleventh Episcopal District and retained Mrs. Brown as the CDMC Episcopal Commissioner until she retired in 2002. Afterwards Bishop Adams appointed Mrs. Margaree Elkins as Eleventh Episcopal District CDMC Commissioner and she served until 2003. In 2004 Bishop McKinley Young appointed Mrs. Sally Griffin who served until 2005. Â Then in 2005, upon the arrival of Bishop McKinley Young, he appointed Mrs. Sharon Sheffield as the CDMC Episcopal District Commissioner and retained the position until 2012 at which time Ms. Novella Jones, was appointed to the position of CDMC Episcopal District Commissioner. The CDMC over the years has evolved into one of the most outstanding youth ministries of the AME Church. On the 11th Episcopal District, CDMC is comprised of six conferences--Florida Conference, East Conference, West Coast Conference, Central Conference, South Conference, and the Bahamas Conference. The Christian Debutante Master Commission (CDMC) provides the youth from 5 years old to 22 years old a Christian Church setting whereby they are introduced to church society, and where they dedicate and commit to pledging themselves to a greater service to Christ as they enter in the society of adulthood.
PURPOSE
The Christian Debutante-Master Commission (CDMC) is to provide guidance and information to the youth and young adults that will facilitate an easy transition into adulthood. The commission provides workshops, trainings, in-depth study of the AME Church, and fellowship opportunities with other youth organizations that enhances their Christian journey as well as deepens their Christian beliefs. These activities are culminated in a an annual religious ceremony for all CDMC participants.
